AUNTIE LIZ CELEBRATES 600TH SHOW
One of our longest-serving presenters reaches a broadcasting landmark today (Tuesday).Liz Clark – Auntie Liz – will deliver her 600th show for the station this evening when Travels With My Auntie Liz is aired. “It’s been a step learning curve,” said Liz, who is also a Board member at the station and a is The Company Secretary. “I only realised quite recently that I had presented so many shows and now I’m ready for my 600th.,
Liz first came in contact with Celtic Music Radio way back in 2004 and then in 2006 when she was asked by Celtic Connections if she would allow CMR to come in and broadcast the Danny Kyle Open Stage – which she and Gibb Todd had been successfully running since 1999. She agreed wholeheartedly as it gave all the artists that appeared on DKOS a chance to get up and coming artists when no other station was broadcasting the local talent to a local or worldwide audience.
Liz knew Mark Sheridan – a director of CMR , presenter, course lecturer at Strathclyde University, where CMR were based, on meeting up at a her friends daughters graduation play where Marion Sheridan was her course tutor, he suggested that with her knowledge of the folk scene / traditional music and festivals for over 50 years, she should come and do a show at CMR! Thus ‘Travels With My Auntie Liz’ was born.
The name came out of the ‘weans’ , young musicians, calling her ‘Auntie Liz ’ (usually trying to get into the sold out Festival Club at Celtic Connections ) These ‘young musicians’ now have families of their own and numerous ones have found themselves at major Tours / Main Stages / Festivals / multiple CD’s and gigs throughout Glasgow and Paisley – and the ‘world’ !
The platform that CMR has given Liz it to get out the emerging talent , tnot only coming throught the DKOS, but through Liz attending over 20 + festivals a year , seeing them perfoming on their ‘newcomers’ stages, local gigs and through them sending her their material.
Liz, also presents Festival Fling on Saturday afternoons, enjoys a loyal audience
“The best thing about Celtic Music Radio is getting the music out there, giving a much needed platform for Scottish musicians, who lets face it no other station does.”
“My greatfull thanks to my fellow presenters and to the listners for supporting the station – which is entirly run by volunteers”
“Also to the stunning local and National artists for their talent and music which affords us the brilliant opportunity to – get the music out there!”

“Liz is a popular broadcaster with her two shows so we look forward to her presenting many more.”
