Liz Clark In Conversation with The Canny Band re their debut album as AOW……….
Join Auntie Liz on Sat 2nd July 12pm when she will be in Conversation with The Canny Band regarding their debut album which is Album of The Week
The Canny Band, a rare fusion of piano, diatonic button accordion and bodhran, has stormed the Glasgow trad scene and gained them numerous high profile BBC TV Radio appearances, received a Danny at the DKOS at Celtic Connections in 2018 and the Up and Coming Award at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Award awards in Dec 2021.
The album features a mix of fast paced reels and jigs accompanied by ‘slower, sensitive and more carefully arranged numbers such as ‘Helen’s Song’ and ‘Jacob’s Waltz’. Borrowings from other styles are evident in tracks such as ‘Musette À Govan’, where a newly composed French style musette waltz takes centre focus. Also in ‘The Canopy’, where the band commissioned Glasgow-based Jack Badcock to write a song over an already existing skeleton arrangement.’
Piano and bodhran were recorded on location at Paxton House in the Scottish borders. The Accordion was recorded in SAE institute in Glasgow. The album was engineered, mixed and mastered by Scott Turnbull.
