About the poet himself, William Hendry Ogilvie 1896 -1963, born in Holefield near Kelso one of eight children, father George famed the lands of The Earl of Dalkeith on the Buccleuch Estates and his mother Agnes, orphaned in the Indian Mutiny at Cawnpore was a gifted pianist. Ogilvie attended high school and went onto college and on graduating sailed to Australia where he lived and worked in the bush for over 12 years. As often is the case Ogilvie is most revered for his poetry in Australia, where many statues are erected in his memory and there is even an Ogilvie Day!
‘With well over 1000 poems written by Ogilvie it was a difficult task to choose only 18 to go on this album’.
