Glasgow based Americana singer/songwriter Emma Jane has been writing songs since the age of seven and performing since late 2005. She has been described as having one of the most distinctive, rich, bluesy voices you’ll hear this side of Nashville. A songwriter with the capability to move the hardest of souls.
Emma’s new album ‘Grow’ released on the 9th January 2024 is a of collection of 12 songs that have real personal meaning and connection.
- Sleep, Repeat, Retrace a song about the routines of life,
- Low explores current society with gritty bluesy guitar hook.
- Flames was penned for a friend who was experiencing change and turmoil, a song of defiance and resilience.
- Beautiful Chaos is a soaring anthemic piece, exploring the feeling of not quite making the grade.
- The title track Grow was written from a very personal place and helped Emma Jane overcome doubt, challenge and strain.
- Hollow is a song of loss and longing, written for a friend who lost her husband unexpectantly.
- Slow, tells a story of someone who is trying to start again.
- The Dealer is a bouncy upbeat track scripted about drug culture.
- Little Love is an upbeat foot tapper inspired by Emma Jane’s children.
- San Francisco is totally absorbing, giving a sense of moving on and learning to let go.
- Rumours is a story telling track of a character who wants something bigger than her roots allow.
- 12. The last goodbye is about Emma Jane’s last moments with her gran (Mary) who passed away having had dementia. This track inspired the release date of the album (9th January, which would have been Mary’s birthday)
All songs on the album were written and composed by Emma Jane in her home studio in Glasgow, where the album was partly recorded. Emma Jane worked with Phili Dearing of LSound London on this album, who she has worked with since 2014.
