DKOS Artists 22nd Jan 2025:- Susy Wall – Bone Idle Brothers – Cameron Roxburgh – Midnight Wild Child – Shauna Lovelle
SUSY WALL
Having spent her first 18 years growing up in a small town on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog in South Wales, Susy has always been in love with the melody and song that is intrinsic to the identity of her home country. This underpins both her writing and performing and is a fundamental part of who she is as an artist. Studying piano from the age of six and teaching herself the guitar at 15, Susy’s songs are influenced by both classical and contemporary themes which translate into honest songs that tell the ordinary story, inspired by the everyday moments that often go unnoticed.
She is heavily influenced by songwriters such as Ricky Ross, Boo Hewerdine, Laura Marling and Paul Simon & focuses on the strength of a melodic vocal topline which often features above a piano or acoustic guitar. Her performance style is acoustic and emphasises her vocals in a similar way to artists such as Eddi Reader and Joni Mitchell.
Susy has been writing since she was 15 but has only recently moved towards becoming a professional singer-songwriter after a life-changing songwriting retreat at the Moniack Mhor Creative Writing Centre near Inverness in 2022.
Susy has self-released 2 EPS and a debut album – The Spaces In Between. She has been played on BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe and Sara Cox’s afternoon show. Her album has recently been the Featured album on Iain Anderson’s show on BBC Radio Scotland and she spent 3 weeks in the Welsh A List on BBC Radio Wales at the end of Sept.
Susy performed at Celtic Connections alongside Norman Paterson at the Glasgow Piping Centre in Jan 2024 and has played at both Shrewsbury and Moseley Folk Festivals., along with several gigs and small festivals including supporting artists such as Boo Hewerdine, Findlay Napier and Dean Friedman.
She is currently working on her second album which is being funded by Arts Council England and is enjoying being part of current collaborations with (amongst others) fellow musicians Gordon Giltrap MBE and Norman Paterson.
BONE IDLE BROTHERS
Bone Idle Bros. are a six piece Americana band from Greenock, Scotland. Since 2019 they’ve been bringing their soulful, country vibes to a devoted and fast-growing fanbase. Friends for years, and with hundreds of shows behind them in other bands – dive bars to festivals – they eventually came together to bring the sweet sound of the Bone Idles to the stage. Inuences? We’re talking Wilco, Neil Young, Alabama 3, Hank Williams, The Pogues, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle and The Las. Stir in a drop of punk energy and… well, you’ll get the idea. The band paid their dues for a year or so on the live circuit, honing a tight and groovy sound with the view to recording an LP. These best laid plans were shelved as the world came to a stop for the best part of two years. But there was to be a silver lining from that shitshow. New songs were written and there was now more to be written about. The Bros. re-grouped and came o the ropes in better shape than ever. New shows in new places. Then, it was into the studio to record their eponymous debut long player with producers Johnny Smillie and Kevin Burleigh. Released in 2004 and celebrated with a joyous and boozy, sold out show on homeground in Gourock, and another in Glasgow, the record is going down a storm. You’ll nd it on gatefold vinyl, CD and all major streaming platforms. With the singles ‘Sometimes’, ‘Lately’ and ‘Whisky and Pills’ along with the brand new release ‘It’s Easy’, this is an album to tell your friends about. They’re gonna like it. The Bros. have been busy on the promotion trail with radio slots and interviews along with a buzzing and catchy social media presence. Catch them soon at a festival near you. With the soul of the city from the heart of the country – Bone Idle Brothers will shake the dirt clean off your boots.
