DKOS Artists 19th Jan 2025:- Motch Parrot – Douglas & Moss – Anna Howells – Other Dog – Woodlands
Motch Parrot
Moteh Parrott is an Edinburgh-based alternative-indie-folk artist from The Highlands via Africa. Born in Cameroon to parents working in rainforest conservation and given the local name ‘Mnkongmoteh’, his music compliments Celtic-infused guitars and cello with lyrics of hope and healing. The result has been likened to “a Highland wilderness with all the sweeping colour and spirit which that encompasses”.
Shortlisted for BBC Radio Scotland’s Singer-Songwriter of the Year Award, Moteh has recently released his debut album, which was recorded at Chem19 studios with Paul Savage, producer of Mogwai, Arab strap, and King Creosote, among other renowned Scottish artists. The album features collaborations with Rachel Sermanni and trad musician Ryan Young. Moteh will be touring with his band throughout 2025, including a Glasgow show at Hug & Pint on April 17th.
Douglas & Moss
Douglas and Moss are a folk duo known for uncommon passion, grace, and sensitivity. A distinctive thread weaves through the music of Douglas and Moss, deeply rooted in their home in North West England – the evocative hills, industrial towns and coastlines – with echoes of their musical heritage and experiences in Ireland, Scotland, and more distant lands.
The pair, Rebecca Clare Douglas and Richard Moss, met performing with Mike Harding and discovered a shared musical connection that blossomed into a unique artistic partnership. Steeped in the rich folk tradition the duo weave a captivating blend of both traditional and original tunes and songs
Anna Howells
Since its release on 15th November, anna’s debut EP Fall of a Leaf has been played on BBC Radio 2 The Folk Show, Iain Anderson BBC Radio Scotland, Celtic Heartbeat BBC Radio Wales among others, and featured as EP of the Year (2024) on the David Dee Moore Radio Show. Anna’s songs are otherworldly. Her clarinet brings a chamberesque flavour to her enchanting sense of melody. Anna’s Irish roots and time in Yorkshire orchestras and ensembles bring a unique quality to her work.In 2023, she was selected for STAGES at Moniack Mhor (Scotland’s Creative Writing Centre) – an immersive song writing development programme for emerging artists. The resulting 12 track album included her song Hope Flies With Swallows Wings which led to her being asked to record a Balcony Session for BBC Introducing.
Anna is a captivating performer who’s live reputation is growing exponentially.
Other Dog
We’re an Edinburgh based three to five piece (depending on weather, luck and logistics), playing original tunes which are on the folky/melodic side of indie. Someone, who we neither knew nor paid, described our songs as a mix between Belle & Sebastian and Nick Cave. We’ll take that, thanks. They’re folk songs, in one way or another.
Woodlands
Woodlands combines Celtic folk music with the modern Scandinavian sound. With roots in Swedish folk music and classical music, Kristina Leesik and Justyna Krzyżanowska perform traditional and original tunes on clarsach, fiddle and vocals. Rhythmic drive, expressiveness and dreamlike sounds characterise their playing, creating a captivating soundscape that transports the listener to the Nordic pine forests and the stormy coasts of Scotland.
Kristina Leesik is a fiddle player, singer and teacher from Stockholm, Sweden and a graduate of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2022 Kristina received the prestigious silver badge Zornmärket and earned the title of Rikspelman, master of Swedish traditional music.
Justyna Krzyżanowska is a harpist and singer from Stockholm, Sweden with a bachelor in classical music from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and a master’s degree in Scottish traditional music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is also sought-after photographer and videographer
