Anna Grindle comes from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She is an educator, coffee-drinker, cyclist and traveller. Anna began in music as a woodwind player, spending summers busking in Belfast as part of a saxophone quartet. Anna has written songs ​intermittently over the ​years, mainly for guitar and more recently keyboard.

Anna’s first album Journey (2004) was in service to a cause, being self-released in support of fundraising before several years of voluntary work in Uganda. A prolific journal writer, life observed and reflected is intrinsic to Anna, and is core to all her song-writing. Recent years have brought what Anna has described as a ‘flurry of song-writing’, and The Turning, is the result. Begun as a purely creative endeavour, friends in the music world persuaded Anna that it deserved to be heard widely. It is consequently her first ‘properly available’ (physically and digitally) body of work.

Essentially a solitary project, the song-writing on The Turning is an open, searching and honest interrogation of lived experiences and observations. Songs bear witness to questions, loss, process, memory and hope. The focus is on the lyrics, set against a mellow harmonic backdrop, and the words breathe on a simple and uncomplicated canvas.

Im a 45 year old from Elgin in the North East of Scotland. I love to write and sing folk songs! I’m accompanied by my husband Neil on guitar. I was brought up here in Scotland with Irish parents and my love of folk came from their endless tape playing of Irish Folk! We are pretty new to performing and have only recently done our first spot at a local folk club. We spent a few years prior to this in a local band with friends called ‘Northern Shore’ in the local area. I especially love to sing ballads and songs with a great story and sense of nostalgia

Songs from the Wheel is Ian David Green’s second full album, due for release on 26 February 2022.

Green’s critically-acclaimed first album, Songs of the Sea, took the listener on a journey through the universal experiences of connection and loss as seen through a very personal lens.

With Songs from the Wheel, Green widens his canvas to bring us a selection of compelling stories from an array of characters, each anchored in their own place and time yet re-living and repeating the experiences of countless others – before, after, or yet to come.

These tales and confessions combine like the pieces of a
jigsaw to build something far greater than the sum of their
parts – a thoughtful, panoramic study of the rich and lyrical landscape of human life and the vastness of the spaces around it.

Songs from the Wheel was recorded at Metro13 studios by Edinburgh musician and producer Marty Hailey and mastered by grammy-award winning engineer William Bowden.

Contributing artists include Marcus Britton (Oi Musica), Su-a Lee (principal cellist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra), Heather Macleod (The Bevvy Sisters, Soundhouse Choir) and Rachel Walker (Dowally).

Opening track Antony & Cleopatra Head for the Highlands will be released as a single on 20 January 2022. Songs from the Wheel will be available on pre-order from 20 January and fully released on 26 Feb 2022.

Whisky Por Favor Fri 28th Jan 2022

Whisky Por Favor is the exciting duo of Spanish singer/guitarist Javier Burón and Scottish guitarist Innes Cardno.

Originally formed in Aberdeen, the Edinburgh based duo combines a blend of traditional Spanish and Latin American genres with the traditional folk music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and beyond!

Expect a swashbuckling array of original songs and folk standards that have been reimagined with a Latin twist and a dash of Gypsy jazz!

Since the release of their debut single “El Síndrome Del Emigrado” in 2020 the duo have played some prestigious venues on the UK’s folk and jazz circuit including the Blue Lamp (Aberdeen) and Le Quecumbar – Hot Club of London.

Angus, George & Forbes Fri 28th Jan 2022

Twin brothers Forbes and Angus Wilson, and life-long friend, George Glyn-Jones, are young musicians who play traditional and contemporary Scottish and Irish tunes as well as their own Celtic inspired compositions. Their blend of whistles and flute, melodeon, and a plethora of stringed instruments are complimented by a creative use of djembe and bodhran. The boys’ close friendship and intuitive understanding of each other’s playing provides a show of excellent musicianship which has been described as ‘sublime’.

Angus, George, and Forbes started playing together less than four years ago by performing in village halls and local festivals, including “How The Light Gets In”, at the Hay-on-Wye literary festival in 2019. At the same time they polished their live performance skills and earned money with which to buy instruments by busking. Gigs supporting national folk musicians beckoned, but then Covid-19 struck and everything stopped. So, the trio retreated to their homes in the hills to compose their own tunes, playing together online, and releasing a collection of home-videos and recordings on social media. When lockdown eased in 2021, this led to them being picked to perform on the launchpad stage at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, at The Farmer’s Arms festival in the Cotswolds, and other regional gigs.

All three members of the band have recently been offered places to study on the BMus Honours Traditional Music course at R.C.S. Glasgow commencing in September 2022.

THE BAND

The members of the band have decades of experience as professional musicians in the folk, classical and heavy metal scene of Denmark. Jotun Revolution consists of HC Molbech (also known from Almune and Gjaldulei, on recorders, flutes and vocals), Christine Kammerer (also known from Gjaldulei on vocals and lyre), Ursula Pedersen Klindt (also known from Göterfunken on cello, gambe and vocals), Lasse Olufson (also known from Ættir and Huldre on lute, hurdy gurdy and vocals) and Benjamin Barfod (percussion).

Deep in the damp darkness of the forests of Western Jutland, the trees speak. Elder trees waiting to share secrets about the healing powers of their flowers and fruits. The mighty oak tells tales of lives unfolding, having witnessed the rise and fall of families, villages, and rulers for hundreds of years.

Amidst them stands a small beech tree. A youngster still, but wise. For in her roots, remembrance dwells. She possesses a wisdom which transcends time. And if you listen closely, with an open heart, she will share her stories. In the early autumn, as the leaves were drawing their last breath on the tree’s tired branches, she told me a story. And there, sat beneath her elegant crown, we heard the “Eversong”
