American-style old-time string band the Arkansas Ramblers got together in January 2017. A 10-strong band (with a combined age of 660!) the Ramblers came from a variety of musical backgrounds – ceilidh, blues, classical, heavy rock, country and Cajun, but took on their new repertoire with gusto. Added to the regular old-time instruments of banjo, guitar, fiddle, harmonica, mandolin and double bass are drums, flute, whistle and melodeon with an occasional burst of washboard and bones in the mix too. Two vocalists provide the songs, mostly from the early 20th century or US Civil War period. The Arkansas Ramblers have already entertained fans and visitors to Glasgow’s Tall Ship, the Clydebuilt Festival and the Largs Viking Festival with their varied repertoire and sartorial elegance. It’s obvious that this band enjoys playing together and their enthusiasm is infectious.
