Formerly the fiddle player in the Glasgow Americana act The Dirty Beggars, “Man of the Minch” is the alias of Pedro Cameron – marking a massive change of tack. Mixing elements of folk, pop, country and electropop – the music is undefinable. Drawing on lyrical themes of loss, friendship and life as a member of the LGBT community, first EP “Helping Hands” is an eclectic mix, bolstered by no-holds barred production, and virtuoso fiddle playing from toast of the folk world Laura Wilkie (Shooglenifty, Kinnaris Quintet, Ross Ainslie) as well as appearances from Conor Markey (Paul McKenna Band, The Wakes), additional vocals by Emilie Boyd (Old World News, Little Acres) and spoken word interludes by reknowned Glasgow poet Sam Small – this is as much a reflection of the disparate talents of its contributors as the songwriting and performance of its spearhead

Emma Martin a singer songwriter, living in Glasgow, studying Commercial Music ,have been writing for over 20 years. She mostly plays solo or with a fiddle accompaniment At the start of last yearshe began writing a collection of songs about the Jute Mills in Dundee, writing for the first time in old Scots. The first track ‘Kettle Bilers’ won last years Hands up for Trad Scots song writing competition. Her love of Scots and of Scottish traditional music have spurred her on to writing and recording more in this vain!

Nicolette Macleod is a singer songwriter from Glasgow. Her music is a blend of folk and jazz which reveals hints of her classical training, time at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and her grandfather’s roots on the Isle of Lewis. She writes original material and arranges British Isles’ folk songs, which she performs with guitar and by looping vocal harmonies live. Shewas a finalist at the Loop Station Championship in London where she performed an original song that later won her a recording session at The Roundhouse EMI studio. Nicolette has supported and sung alongside some well known names including The Leisure Society, The Irrepressibles and Karine Polwart.Her vocals have been used on a number of films and in a pop setting for albums receiving prime time radio play on BBC2 and BBC6. She also has a passion for writing music for theatre and dance. Most recently she wrote and performed the music for ‘Curious Shoes’ a dementia friendly theatre show.

Blair is a musician and composer residing in Glasgow blending the borders between contemporary classical music, ambience, electronics, folk and poetry. With the aid of a 9 piece string ensemble his primary intention is to create enchanting atmospheres that sets course for introspection and meditation.
When not performing with the band, Blair regularly collaborates and composes with those in the other arts with a keen interest in how these can be translated between one another. Recently, he scored a new play by Andrew Edwards (winner of the Roxy Theatre award), performed throughout the whole of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 and has a new show lined up in March 2018, which aims to tackle the accessibility of music for deaf people.

The Canny Band Sam Mabbett & Michael Biggins
After year of playing together in various different bands, Sam Mabbett (Melodeon) and Michael Biggins (piano) come together as a duo to form ‘The Canny Band’.
Michael and Sam first met at Folkworks traditional music summer school in 2013 and quickly decided that they should be making music together. However, as they lived at opposite ends of the country, this proved difficult! Now, 5 years on, they live around the corner from each other in Glasgow and have no excuse not to play together!
The pair are currently students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and play music from Ireland, Scotland and everywhere else.
