Noah – Glasgow Listen Again
With roots set firmly in Americana – Kenneth-Noah Blair – is able to take a North Eastern Atlantic pall to the derivations and pull through the granite of Glasgow”. Spending the beginning of 2016 assembling an impressive band to take his music to the next level, Kenneth has been playing shows around Glasgow under the guise of Noah garnering interest with his dynamically arranged yet all the while intensely intimate sets. 2016 saw the release of his debut single “Twenty-five” as well as his current single “Noticing the Space”, the official song for the Scottish International Airshow – which Noah also performed at as the headline act. 2017 will see Noah and his band work towards putting out their first EP together.
Beth Malcolm – Glasgow Listen Again
Beth was raised in Perth and given little chance to escape the folksy-sphere. Now grown up and Glasgow-based, Malcolm is an assured 19-year-old singer/songwriter. Following several years developing her songwriting, piano playing and performing in the UK and Germany, and at festivals such as Celtic Connections and the Country2Country festival in London, Beth released her debut EP ‘Better By Noon’ in late 2016. Ever penning new material, an eclectic mix of fragile blues and folksy pop has become Beth’s distinctive sound.
Marianne McGregor – Orkney/Glasgow Listen Again
Growing up in Orkney Marianne was exposed to a rich environment of all things musical, creative and expressive. Although primarily a jazz singer, Marianne has taken influence from various other styles, incorporating a breathy folky twist into her voice. In the time since finishing her music degree in 2015, she has used songwriting as a soothing creative outlet for personal storytelling and expression, using smooth bluesy/folky vocal tone and her unique pallet of textures to communicate and engage with the listener. Although she is relatively new to the role of singer songwriter, Marianne hopes to continue writing and performing in this unique and quirky style.
Folky MacFolk Face – Glasgow Listen Again
Jackie Mullen/ Dougie Torrance / Eabhnat Ni Laighin / Nick Watson
Are a newly formed four-piece traditional music band based in Central Scotland whose members hail originally from Scotland and Ireland. The band comprises of Jackie Mullen who plays guitar, mandolin and fiddle, Dougie Torrance who plays guitar and piano, Eabhnat Ni Laighin who plays fiddle and Nick Watson who sings and plays percussion.
Oxen Fell – Glasgow Listen Again
Fraser Macpherson, Dorian Cloudsley
Fraser -former lead guitarist of indie/pop quartet Maple Leaves, and, leader and guitarist in instrumental fusion juggernaut Fat-Suit. Together they blend said styles with a folk twist to deliver you a unique collection of instrumental guitar treats. Earlier this year they released their debut digital EP ‘Snow Moon’, followed by a series of dates in Scotland and Northern England to promote the record. Whilst in the Lake District they travelled to their namesake, Oxen Fell, and filmed a series of videos to accompany the songs on their upcoming second EP.
