Celtic Music Radio Will Once Again Broadcast The Danny Kyle Open Stage At Celtic Connections 2021.
STATION TO BROADCAST OPEN STAGE SESSIONS AT CELTIC CONNECTIONS
CELTIC Music Radio will be broadcasting once again one of the most popular events at the 28th Celtic Connections 2021.15 Jan – 31st Jan 2021
For seventeen consecutive nights the station – run by music-loving volunteers – will feature the highly popular Danny Kyle Open Stage sessions during the festival, which is being staged digitally for the first time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The station will broadcast the Open Stage – celebrating its 21st anniversary at the world famous festival – between 5 and 7 pm, featuring three recordings from five acts. As in previous years, judges will choose six acts to go through to the showcase final on January 31.
The Open Stage, starting on January 15, gives new musical talent the chance to shine under the Celtic Connections’ spotlight – and with a support slot at the following year’s festival on offer, it’s always a hard-fought competition.
The Open Stage is produced and presented by Danny Kyle’s close friend, Liz Clark, who said:
“Danny Kyle was a passionate supporter of traditional music and a constant campaigner for its revival in Scotland.
“In previous years, the Dannys were full-house sessions in the Exhibition Hall of the Royal Concert Hall so we are pleased that they will be going ahead although in a different format, and that Celtic Music Radio will be broadcasting them, as the station has done since 2008.”
Liz has put on more than 1,890 acts from almost 4,000 applications in that time.
“It is a privilege and so enjoyable with the quality of the acts over the years just wonderful. They have thrilled the audiences who have loved the Open Stage nights,” said Liz.
“Judges will adjudicate every night as normal and six acts will be chosen after the last Saturday’s performance for the showcase on January 31st .”
Previous Open Stage award winners include Karine Polwart, Julie Fowlis, Adam Sutherland, Jenna Reid, Emily Smith, Malinky, The Midden, Braebach and Taylor and Leigh.
Celtic Music Radio – currently seeking donations, advertising and sponsorship to stay on air – is committed to offering a strong cultural voice for contemporary and traditional Scottish music, arts and culture, as well as a wide range of musical genres in its round-the-clock programming.
Around 30 volunteers – including a board of directors – are involved in the running of the station, which has 80,000 listeners a month in the Glasgow area and thousands more in 180 countries worldwide via its Internet stream.
